What Bites does

Five jobs, done plainly. All of them are free, and every number they produce can be changed.

  • Photo calorie estimates you can edit

Photograph your plate. Bites lists each food, estimates the grams and says how sure it is. Fix anything that's off.

    How the estimates work
  • A week of meals that fits

Suggestions within your calorie budget, protein, diet, allergies and dislikes, or your own food. Your choices are never changed for you.

    Meal planning
  • Turkish and world recipes

327 recipes with nutrition per serving, 155 of them from Turkish cuisine, plus your own and the ones you import.

    Browse recipes
  • Groceries, worked out

One list from your plan, with real amounts, grouped by aisle. Skip what you have at home or send it to Reminders.

    How groceries work
  • Progress you can read

A weight trend instead of daily noise, a weekly check-in, measurements, and workouts saved to Apple Health.

Logging

One photo, and the meal is in your log

Point the camera at your plate. Bites names each food, estimates its weight and labels every guess: High confidence, Estimate or Rough guess. Tap a name or an amount to fix it before you log.

  • Photo, description, nutrition label or barcode
  • 8,000+ foods to search, from simit and menemen to supermarket brands
  • Everything you log becomes a food you can find again
  • Say it out loud: “two eggs on toast and a latte”
How Bites estimates calories
A scan result in Bites: grilled salmon with quinoa, avocado and roasted broccoli, 652 kcal in total, with each item marked as an estimate you can change.

Your budget

A daily budget that tells the truth

Your budget starts from your goal, body and activity and never drops below a safe floor. Every week Bites compares it with your real weight trend and may suggest a change of up to 150 kcal. You decide whether to apply it.

  • Training days get a little more, and Apple Health workouts count once
  • A weekly flex, so one big dinner doesn't ruin the week
  • Macros, fiber, sugar and sodium at a glance
  • Habits mode for days you'd rather not see numbers
The Today screen in Bites on a rest day: 860 kcal eaten, 790 left of a 1,650 kcal budget, and 896 kcal of flex this week.

Meal planning

Plan a week that's actually yours

Ask for suggestions that fit your budget, protein, diet, allergies and dislikes, pick recipes yourself, or plan your own food. Swap a meal, change what's in it, skip a day or eat out. Bites never undoes what you chose.

  • When nothing fits, a slot stays empty rather than wrong
  • Groceries with real amounts, your pantry and Reminders
  • A prep list for what's worth cooking ahead
  • A Sunday review of how the week went
More about meal planning
The Week tab in Bites: Thursday planned at 1,636 of 1,650 kcal, a rest day, and Greek yogurt with berries and granola for breakfast.

Training and progress

Train, and watch the right numbers move

Follow a routine set by set and see your weight trend, measurements and body-fat estimate side by side. The weekly check-in takes about 90 seconds, and it never tells you to eat less to make up for a week.

  • 40 exercises and 9 starter routines
  • Workouts saved to Apple Health, personal bests kept
  • Weight trend, waist and a body-fat estimate from the US Navy tape method
  • Progress photos stay on your iPhone
The Progress screen in Bites: a goal to lose fat, 143.7 lb now and 136.7 lb as the target, a waist of 31.1 in, and the weight trend.
The Training screen in Bites: 2 of 4 sessions done this week, a full-body workout on Monday and a run on Wednesday.

All questions

Is Bites really free?

Yes. Every feature is free today, including photo estimates, meal plans, recipes, groceries and progress. Bites Pro is an optional supporter plan that unlocks nothing; it pays for the servers and keeps Bites ad-free.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up. Your data stays on your iPhone and syncs through your own iCloud.

How accurate are photo estimates?

We haven't published an accuracy figure, because we haven't yet measured one we would stand behind. Estimates are best at identifying foods and weakest on hidden oil and portion size. Every item says how sure it is, and every number can be changed. Where estimates go wrong.
